Tanzania Takes Trade Expo to Kenya – East African Film Network

Tanzania is set to hold an exhibition in Kenya aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two East African Community Partners States.

Dubbed Made in Tanzania Week in Kenya, the exhibition to be held at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi April 25 – 28, 2018 is aimed at promoting Tanzanian products and services in Kenya.

Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation that says it is working with the private sector, says the Made in Tanzania Week in Kenya is guided by Tanzania’s 2016 – 2021 five year development plan whose theme is “Nurturing Industrialization for Economic Transformation and Human Development”.

As the country sets its sights on becoming what it refers to as ‘a semi-industrialised nation by 2025 while placing the private sector as the engine of growth and development’, it says is also looking for ‘sustainable markets’ for its envisaged ‘industrial products’.

The Foreign Ministry says Tanzania’s abundant natural resources, coupled with the political will of the current government to move towards an industrial economy provides a greater potential for growth of industrial products which can be penetrated to the regional market. However, despite its proximity and existing trade agreements such as the East African Community’s Common Market, many Tanzanian products have not managed to penetrate the EAC market, the ministry says.

“In view of that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation in implementation of the country’s Foreign Policy that focuses on Economic Diplomacy, is seeking to pursue wider and broader markets opportunities for the country’s industrial products in the EAC starting with Kenya,” the ministry says in a media statement.

It says the Made in Tanzania Week in Kenya–that falls within the Tanzanian National Holiday celebration of the 54th Union Day on April 26, 2018–shall ‘feature Industrial products, services, technologies, Agribusiness, Culture, Arts and Crafts.’

The Exhibition aims at creating more awareness of Tanzanian products and services to the private sector and general public at large in Kenya.

Specifically, the Government says, the Exhibition intends to:

Showcase Tanzania industrial products and services to the Kenyan community
Create market linkages for Tanzania products with major supermarkets and other consumer supply chains in Kenya
To connect Tanzanian producers and private sector with their counterparts in Kenya for business to business meeting
Explore room for partnerships between the investors from Tanzania and Kenya, and
To promote Tanzania tourist destinations to the Kenyan community.
