On behalf of the Zanzibar International Film Festival I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences and Pole to the people and relatives of those directly affected by the shocking massacre of 148 people in North-Eastern Kenya on April 2, 2015.
ZIFF stands together with the people of Kenya and condemn this heinous attack on our peace-loving neighbours and East African Community partners.
As an arts organisation our duty has always been to promote enduring peace and exchange between cultures and we have gained enormously from our communion with filmmakers from Kenya. ZIFF would not be what it is if it had not been for the support and belief that the people and government of Kenya has in our organisation and our role in the region.
We therefore pledge to redouble our efforts at working closely with the people of Kenya to pursue a better future for all the people of the region.
Through film we shall continue to educate our populations to understand and have respect for freedom, tolerance, human rights, responsibility and accountability.
Poleni sana Ndugu zetu.
Mahmoud Kombo (MP)
Chair ZIFF.
